The History

Charalambos Lydakis, born in 1885, a restless and forward-thinking spirit of his time, emigrated to America in 1910. He returned to Crete twenty years later, bringing with him the most advanced mechanical equipment of the era and founding the first olive mill in his birthplace, the village of Lytos Pediados. His granddaughter, often called “the American’s granddaughter,” grew up with the values of respecting the olive tree and making the most of its fruit.

The family business was shaken by the outbreak of World War II, which brought commercial activity to a halt. The German occupation authorities requisitioned Lydakis’s olive mill and operated it for their own benefit. At the end of the war, upon withdrawing, the German forces set fire to the facility, destroying it completely. Yet Lydakis persisted. He rebuilt the business with more modern equipment in a new location on the outskirts of the village, operating the second olive-crushing plant until his retirement in the late 1960s.

His granddaughter, Eva-Maria Tsapaki, grew up surrounded by the memories of her grandfather’s production and trade, and passed on the family’s love for olive oil and its benefits to her husband, Eleftherios Tsiridis — the visionary behind DyO Estate.

Both are medical professors in Thessaloniki and deeply familiar with the therapeutic value of olive oil.

The family recently acquired a large, uniquely valuable 100-acre visitable olive grove in the Mesara plain, nestled between the Asterousia mountains to the south and Mount Psiloritis to the north. Together with their existing groves in the Pediada region, they founded the agricultural olive-production company Dyo Estate.

The vision of the two doctors is to produce olive oil of exceptional quality, scientifically recognized for its health benefits, combining the wisdom of nature and tradition with the knowledge of medical science.

They aspire for DyO Estate olive oil to become a benchmark in the global market for consumers who seek not only taste and quality, but also a product with proven positive effects on health, grounded in the principles of prevention and well-being.
